Terry McDonnell is an award-winning teacher whose courses help students explore everyday creativity in popular culture, design, fine arts, and advertising. As a sociologist of art and culture, Terry’s research focuses on the power of media to influence social life. In particular, he is an expert on media campaigns and the relationship between art, media and political and social activism. Terry explores what makes particular cultural objects — from music to images — powerful and what explains the often unpredictable pathways that culture travels once it leaves the studio, the gallery, the ad agency, and the publisher.
His empirical findings have already made contributions to health communication policy around AIDS. Terry McDonnell received his PhD in Sociology from Northwestern University.
